POTATO, December 2002
To (my honored junior high teacher) Bami-chan:
We haven't seen each other since I graduated from junior high, but how are you, Bami-chan?
It would be great if someone who knows Bami-chan reads this letter, and this message gets to her.
Myojo, January 2007
To Katabami-sensei:
My homeroom teacher during my 2nd, 3rd year of junior high, Katabami-sensei --- we haven't seen each other since I graduated, but how are you?
I've been wanting to see you all this time, and I'm still looking for you. If by any chance a junior high student of hers is reading this, by all means let her know.

Aiba→Jun
Speaking
of MatsuJun's changes, more than anything it's his height, right?
Before he was smaller than me by more than 10 inches, but now we're not
that different in height. His looks have also gone from cute to cool. But I think he hasn't changed that much inside. MatsuJun, he's
quite behaved when the two of us are together...well he's cool. But the
two of us haven't been alone together lately, come to think of it. The other day we were together for the [junior] radio show though, for the
first time in a while. (MatsuJun arrives, saying "What what, are you saying good things about me?")
Ah, the person in question has arrived, so I can't say any of that
(laughs). All joking aside, I think MatsuJun's good point would be
the way he carefully thinks about stuff. He's serious in everything.
But it also becomes a weak point, brooding. I sometimes worry,
"Won't he get tired?" (Jun asks the staff with a serious expression, "May I please go to the bathroom? Oh, I can't?")
Look, he's serious in everything (laughs). Ah, but just so you know,
there are times when even I think about stuff seriously too (laughs).
The
type of girl that would match MatsuJun is a girl who is way more
capable than him. Because MatsuJun, he's not perfect. He'll most probably want to take
the lead, so showing MatsuJun that she's being led by him, but in fact
it is actually her who is firmly doing the leading...that kind of girl who is adult mentally would suit him, right?

Nino's hair was long when I first met him, and I thought, "That guy sure seems like an otaku"
(laughs). Back then Nike was all the rage, and a~ll the juniors wore
Nike sneakers, but only Nino wore Reeboks. I was also wearing Reeboks,
so I think I felt an affinity with him because of that. Me and Nino,
we're so alike in the way we don't like to do bothersome stuff. For
instance, there are times when it would absolutely rain, right, like when the weather report says the chances of
rain are 90%? Even on such days,
if it's not raining when we leave the house, then we both won't
absolutely bring an umbrella. So in the end, we're both soaking wet
(laughs). You really should change that about you! Well, me too...By
the way, the one who's always prepared is Anazawa. There's always a
folding umbrella inside his bag. Speaking of which, when I went to
Nino's house recently, I was so surprised~. His dad is so young. He
was like a slightly chubby yobikousei,
and I thought he was Nino's older brother. The bath house the two of us
went to that day was really fun! All the other customers left halfway
through, and we had the place all to ourselves. We poured water on the
floor, and we slid and glided on the tiles stark naked! Our butts hurt a bit though (laughs).

MASAKI AIBA X TOMOHISA YAMASHITA
So how's Ppoi! going for you?
It's really fun on set, isn't it. Everyone gets along well. In between takes, we like happily play games and stuff together.
The moodmaker on set is?
Wouldn't that be the Three Idiots? Hasebe, Uesato, and Nakamaru who play Mishima, Baba, and Kasuga. The set gets lonely when those three aren't around (laughs).
It does get quiet, doesn't it (laughs).
Well, it's probably more
like Uesato-kun alone (laughs). During this one time when Aiba-kun
wasn't around, we held a gag contest with Uesato-kun. Someone will do
something that'll make the other person laugh before a take, and the
one who laughs after the camera starts rolling is the loser. It's
really fun.
Really, you're doing that? I'm quiet in comparison. Well, I'm asleep a lot in between takes.
Oh, right, at the infirmary.
Yup,
yup. Just the other day, I had about four hours until my next take,
right? That time, when I slept at the infirmary, it felt really good.
At first I was lying about on the bed reading the script, but the wind
was like blowing gently. I was losing to it bit by bit, and eventually
I fell asleep (laughs).
Ahahaha. You were so very kind then, Aiba-kun. Aiba-kun was sleeping on the one bed, and Furuya-kun on the other. So I slept on the floor in between, but then Aiba-kun woke me up and said, "Sleep here." I was wowed.
No, no. But because the set's like that, it's the fun feeling that dominates even though filming is tough. It's not agonizing even if it takes time.
I
think a big part of it is that the juniors are together. It gets quite
easy when there's a junior, even just one, around. One time, all the juniors went home, and I was the only one left to shoot on set. It was
so lonely that I almost felt like crying.
Also, one reason why it's easy is because a lot of the staff are the same from BOYS BE...Jr., and we're used to them.
Yup,
it's really easy. I look forward to going to the set. I appear a lot,
but I can memorize almost all of my lines by the time we shoot. And
sometimes when I don't know, I get to memorize them while we're doing
rehearsals, so I'm okay during the actual take. Excellent, excellent
(laughs).
I also come to memorize my lines. I think we don't have that many NGs.
Yup, we don't have NGs where we flub our lines. But the director is a very particular person, so we do it again.
Yeah, even if our acting is fine, it's rarely okay with one take. But on the contrary, I think his being particular is good.
Yeah,
I think the director is amazing. He's so particular that he shoots the
same scene again, one where we're holding a bag, and one where we're not. I'm thinking the number of takes we have is on the level of a
movie. Also, Aiba-kun, you've always been good at acting, but I think
you've gotten even better since Shounen Hanzai.
Yamapi
has always been quick to learn his lines, from the time of Shounen
Hanzai. I'm the type who can't remember if I don't read it several
times, so I was really envious at YamaP's quickness (while saying that, Aiba suddenly gets up and goes to the bathroom)
(Seeing Aiba's "my pace"-ness) Me,
I really like that in Aiba-kun. I respect him so much (laughs). I've
always looked up to him, but lately my respect for him has really gone
up. I joined Johnny's because I admired Takizawa-kun, but after I
joined I also came to like Aiba-kun. Of course even now I still respect
Takizawa-kun, but I also really like Aiba-kun. If I were a girl, I'd
definitely want to go out with him.
(Returning from the bathroom) Thank
you. If I were a girl, I'd maybe get YamaP to be my boyfriend too
(laughs). Actually we're a bit apart in age, but we joined Johnny's
around the same time, not even a month apart, right? That's why it
doesn't feel like he's a kouhai. Well, but YamaP's the one who's really fresh and lively (laughs).
Me
too, for me Aiba-kun is Aiba-kun. I don't feel the age difference that
much. That's why it's lonely now that Aiba-kun has graduated from the
[junior] radio show. I was like, "Don't go, Aiba-kuuunnn~" (laughs)
It's
really too bad about the radio show, even thought it was fun, but the
drama is far from over, so I'm counting on you. I want us to go to the
bathroom together too (laughs).
Yeah, that school has already closed down, so it's a bit scary, isn't it.
It's scary it's scary. I absolutely cannot walk alone at night. So from now on let's go to the bathroom together (laughs).

Among
the three of us, I'm the one older by a year, so it seems like I'm the
senpai, right? But it's actually MatsuJun who has been a junior the
longest. When I became a junior, the first time I went to dance
lessons, he kindly taught me the dance steps. At first my impression of
him was, "He sure is small~. I bet he still can't ride the roller
coaster at amusement parks" (laughs) But now, we're like the same
height. His looks have also become more mature...The other day, I just
happened to watch Bokura no yuuki, and MatsuJun's face back then was completely round
(laughs). I didn't notice because we're always together, but he really
has changed, both inside and outside. A long time ago, there was a
Dragonball poster in MatsuJun's room, and I thought it was cute of him,
but it's probably not there anymore. Speaking of MatsuJun's room, his
clothes and stuff were all messily scattered about, so much
that I was worrying over where I should sit (laughs). Me, I only have
the bare necessities in my room, and I make it a rule not to bring
unnecessary stuff in, so I was really surprised when I saw that room.
That's not good~. We have to clean up sometimes!
p.s. Check out this dramatic Sho-kun x Aiba-chan fanvid, complete with old movie effect! Love the scene where Aiba-chan "discovers" Sho-kun with Fukiishi Kazue lol

Wink up, circa 1997
scan: arimi_skywalker (thanks a lot ♥)
I've
never acted before. During school arts festivals, I was always the
lighting guy. It's a role nobody really wants, but it's actually deep
and interesting, because the feel of the stage completely changes
according to the lights. The actors I like are Ishida Issei-san and Sorimachi Takashi-san!
In the future, it would be great if like them, I could become an actor
with a strong personality, whose presence can be felt just by being on
screen. One thing I'm happy about lately is being able to go to New
York for a Wink up shoot! It was so much fun! We went to lots of
different places riding the location bus. It was all for the magazine
story, but it was fun and hardly felt like work. The one thing I
remember the most is...Nonaka-kun's * one-man conte
(laughs). He's like talking all the time. He makes lame jokes, but
slowly and strangely, we begin to find them funny (laughs). The details
of our New York trip will be in next month's issue, so look forward to
it!

Blood type: AB. Height: 164 cm. Weight: 48 kg. Shoe size: 27 cm.
* an ex-junior
Didn't know the four of them were called J-Boys (short for Johnny's Boys) before MAIN. And Toma admired Sho-kun?
The
other day I was asked by a girl, "Are you the junior Matsumoto
Jun-kun?" I was so happy! I mean, Matsumoto-kun's face is so cute,
isn't it?...The one I admire among the juniors is Sakurai-kun!
And wah MatsuJun so cute (this MatsuJun doesn't exist anymore lol):
We've
always gotten along well, but I'm happy that since the [junior] radio
show has started, and the stage play decided, we've become closer! Ah,
but that guy just had me in a stranglehold a while ago (laughs). (Ninomiya-kun faces here and flashes a peace sign)
Concerts are also fun! I mean, even though it's fun to just be dancing,
Aiba-kun and Ninomiya-kun next to me would always be making me laugh.
And during this year's spring concert, I was praised by the dance
teacher! For me who is always getting scolded by name, this is such big
news. Stage experience? I have...at our school arts festival, and a bit
part at that (laughs). I only had a few lines, but this time won't
definitely be at that level. I think that as long as I give it my all,
even though I look like this, I'm a pretty quick learner. Anyway, I'm a mass of willingness and motivation this time around, so it's definitely gonna be okay! But you know,
if I mess up during the actual show, don't strangle me, Ninomiya-kun!
(laughs)

YOUNG SONG, September 2005
scan: Tess
I
like Kazamidori among the songs in the album. Back in grade school, I
had a really good friend, but he transferred to another school.
Together we tested how far we can go riding our bikes, we played
baseball and soccer etc...I remember those stuff when I hear this
song. The words "Let's enjoy today~" in my solo Itsuka no summer is
also a priority in my life, so it's easy to put my feelings into it when
I'm singing it. The song's lyrics could be looking back at the past, or
it could be comparing the past and the present...I guess there are many
ways of interpreting it, depending on the listener. The lyrics are
deep, and I myself get more confused the more I think about it (laughs).
Er
Leader month is over, but here's what Leader said when he appeared as a
guest on 2007.09.06 ON8. The DJ told Leader that he was already a "Man
of Legend" lol, and she was so
looking forward to meeting him. What he said:
Ninomiya Kazunari comes to me and meddles with me, so I have no choice but to pay attention to him.
So it's like you're just going along with him?
Yup, that's right. It's not like I really want to do it...
Lol poor Leader...
As the leader of Arashi, what is it that you want from the members?
Treat me more gently
So you're not treated very gently?
Yup, it's rough treatment. I want them to go easy on me (laughs).
Ninomiya-kun talked about fooling around during rehearsals, and together with Aiba-kun getting scolded a lot by Matsumoto-kun.
Well he doesn't really get angry that seriously. It's more like *imitates MatsuJun* "Hey that's enough" (laughs).
Er that seems more serious instead (laughs).
And then we'd go, "Yes, we're sorry", then end up coming up with another game.
For instance, when you're in the middle of a meeting...
When I feel like we've run out of ideas, I'd like
send a message to Nino. Even though he's sitting right next to me. I'd say like, "We sure are not coming up with anything..."
And what does Ninomiya-kun say?
"I know. I want to go home..." (laughs)
In connection with the title Happiness, during which times do
you feel happy as an Arashi member, or think, "I sure am happy I'm an
Arashi member"?
Lately we've been together all the time because of the tour...Well, I'm
happy because we're together all the time (laughs).
So Happiness for Ohno-kun is to be able to be with everyone always.
Right...that's Happiness. ♥

Happy 27th birthday, Leader! Sorry for the belated greeting >< Er this is so not timely anymore (it's Aiba-chan month already!), but here's the last for Ohno Satoshi month, which is from Nino's guest appearance on bayfm ON8 (Onpachi). They had a corner where he was asked to compare the other members to something (Ohmiya moe~). Ohno Satoshi month was fun, thanks for reading! Will catch up and reply soon:
Aiba-chan → Chinese [food], then Ramenman
Why: the family business. Nino said that for lunch that day, they had food from the Aiba family restaurant, from gyoza, chili shrimp, to fried rice. They were brought by Aiba-chan's father himself, whom Nino calls by his name Katsuhisa.
MatsuJun → spaghetti
Why: Bambino. Nino: "I think he looks good in any role."
And then Leader:
How about Ohno-kun?
Ohno-san... *long pause* ...everything about him...
Everything about him...
Is weird.
Hahahahaha you're not comparing at all!
No, really, everything about him is weird.
Everything?
Well
I don't know if he's weird in the typical way, but that's what I think.
Right now we're in the last stages of our concert rehearsals,
and...he's like...always wearing a t-shirt that says Hell Taxi.
Hahaha what?! It says that? It says Hell Taxi?
Yup, and when I say "Taxi!", he'd like come over.
Hahahahaha!!! *claps*
We're like doing that the whole time, so Jun-kun would get angry at us. He'd go, "Get serious, will ya?" Me and Ohno-san, we end up fooling around most of the time, so during rehearsals we're made to dance on opposite ends from each other.
Away from each other.
Yup, but whenever we take a break, when I call out "Taxi!", the taxi would come over. Since we end up playing like that, I tell him, "Then don't wear it!" I mean, in the first place, what the heck is a Hell Taxi? Also, he'd always say, "I'll take you to hell today too."
[At this point the DJ is laughing her butt off]
We normally do stuff like that, but I'm thinking most people would find it weird. I mean, if you get into a taxi for real and the driver says, "So, shall I take you to hell today?" You'd be surprised and want to get off, right?
Haha of course, obviously!
You'd think, "Ack, I've gotten into a weird one!"
Yup, exactly.
If you think of it that way, the way that guy thinks is, well, a bit unique. I'm thinking it's sorta rude to call him weird, so maybe it's better to say unique.
Sho-kun → stone
Why: his strong convictions. For Ichimen!, they'd have a meeting around Thursday or Friday, and until then he'd be reading about three different newspapers everyday, comparing and contrasting them, and even on the set of YamaTaro he'd be reading them early in the morning etc. etc. etc. *the talk gets serious*
[At this point the DJ has stopped laughing and is now all serious]
I
think he's really amazing...er, Sho-san's gotten serious and all, so
shall we cut this part out? Apologies to Sho-san, but let's focus on
Hell Taxi!
Hahahahaha!!!
Well,
the person called "Leader"...lately it's really getting to be a
nickname. Basically it's Sho-kun who leads. And during concerts, it's
Jun-kun.
Everyone's got their own roles, in a balanced way.
And during variety shows it's me or Aiba-san.
None of you really overlap each other.
Yes, but who would have thought that after eight years there'd be a taxi driver. And the biggest mystery is that he's the only one who doesn't have a driver's license. All he's got is a PASMO.
Hahaha but despite that he'll take you to hell!
★
Other
interesting stuff: it was Sho-kun who came up with the name Time
for their album, but Nino, Leader, and Aiba-chan came up with other candidates, like: "What's a piglet doing here?" → "Since there's
a pig, let's name it Olympig." ^^;;; I searched for the shirt and found
these (seems like a fashionable and expensive brand):
